ITRU - Cotton Single Fibre Fineness/Maturity Measurement System

Itru has developed two new systems to determine the Fineness/Maturity of Cotton Fibres through sophisticated algorithms based on image processing

-Itru -Cotton Single Fibre Fineness /Maturity Tester (make use of parallel fibres)

-Itru -Cotton Surface Analyses Fineness/Maturity Tester (make use of entangled fibres)

The pictures show microscopic images cotton fibres. It can be clearly seen that

-There is a variation between fibres in terms of fineness/maturity

-There is variation within each fibre in terms of fineness/maturity

There are many software available to determine the fineness and maturity values of cotton fibres from x-section analyses. In our research work longitudinal images have been used to determine the all fineness and maturity parameters and X-checked with x-section Image Analyses systems.

Input :The Image of Cotton fibres as shown below

X-Section Images of Cotton Fibres

Longitudinal Images of Cotton Fibres

This table above summarises the conversion of longitudinal images of cotton Fibres images to the Cotton Fineness and Maturity values through a sophisticated algorithms developed by Itru .

This system comprises

-Notebook and Image capturer

-Itru Fibre Tester -UAK-SF ver 1.0 (Cotton Single Fibre Fineness/Maturity Measurement System)

Where

Theta= Circularity of cotton fibre

P2= Cotton Fibre perimeter in micron

AW= Area of wall

FM3 = Maturity Ratio =H/HS

H= Fibre Fineness in mtex

HS= Standard Fibre Fineness

FM1=Causticare Maturity %

IFC= Immature Fibre Content

DF=Degree of Flatness

U = Micronaire micro gram /inch of cotton Fibre

From X-section of cotton Fibres one can conclude the Fineness and Maturity Values . We have developed a system to convert the x-section measurement values to longitudinal measurement values and seek a correlation between two systems.

There is a close correlation between Fineness and Calculated Micronaire in most of the cases.

Itru Fibre Tester UAK-SF could be used for single analyses of cotton fibres for mainly research purposes.

Advantages of longitudinal analyses over x-section analyses could be summarised as follows:

-More preciseness measurement of diameter of cotton fibres

-Faster System

For any type of cotton sample measurement of micronaire value is not a single value. Micronaire means micrograms per inch of single fibre. However, any cotton sample when observed under microscope it could be seen clearly that there is a variation in fineness and maturity within one sample as shown in the previous pictures..
